MARKET COMMENTS
Sep E-mini S&Ps (ESU13 unch) this morning are down -1.50 points (-0.09%). The S&P 500 index on Wednesday climbed to a 4-week high and closed higher. Bullish factors included (1) reduced threats of a U.S. military strike against Syria after President Obama asked Congress to delay a vote authorizing the use of military force while the administration pursues Russia's proposal that Syria gives up its chemical weapons, and (2) improved global economic prospects after the UK July unemployment rate unexpectedly fell to a 4-year low of 7.7%. Closes: S&P 500 +0.31%, Dow Jones +0.89%, Nasdaq 100 -0.16%.
Dec 10-year T-notes (ZNZ13 +0.18%) this morning are up +7.5 ticks. Dec 10-year T-note prices on Wednesday shed early losses and closed higher on strong demand for the Treasury's $21 billion 10-year T-note auction that had a bid-to-cover ratio of 2.86, higher than the 12-auction average of 2.78. Prices had traded lower early on reduced safe-haven demand as the threat of any U.S. military strike against Syria faded when President Obama asked Congress to delay a vote on authorizing military force against Syria. Closes: TYZ3 +14.50, FVZ3 +9.75.
The dollar index (DXY00 +0.01%) this morning is up +0.014 (+0.02%). EUR/USD (^EURUSD) is down -0.0016 (-0.12%) and USD/JPY (^USDJPY) is down -0.53 (-0.53%). The dollar index on Wednesday slipped to a 1-1/2 week low and closed lower. The dollar retreated on reduced safe-haven demand after President Obama postponed a decision on military attacks on Syria. Another negative for the dollar was the rally in the British pound to a 7-month high against the dollar after the UK unemployment rate unexpectedly fell to a 4-year low. Closes: Dollar index -0.303 (-0.37%), EUR/USD +0.00435 (+0.33%), USD/JPY -0.49 (-0.49%).
Oct WTI crude oil (CLV13 +0.80%) this morning is up +93 cents (+0.86%) and Oct gasoline (RBV13 +1.50%) is up +0.0385 (+1.42%). Oct crude oil and gasoline prices on Wednesday settled mixed. A slide in the dollar index to a 1-1/2 week low boosted crude, while Oct gasoline tumbled to a 1-month low after weekly EIA gasoline stockpiles unexpectedly rose +1.658 million bbl, higher than estimates for a -1.0 million bbl decline. Another bearish factor for crude was the +1.6% increase in U.S. crude production in the week ended Sep 6 to a new 23-3/4 year high of 7.745 million barrels a day. Also, crude prices were pressured as the risk of a U.S. military strike in Syria receded when President Obama postponed a decision on military attacks on Syria. Closes: CLV3 +0.17 (+0.16%), RBV3 -0.0235 (-0.86%).

MARKET COMMENTS
Sep E-mini S&Ps (ESU13 -0.06%) this morning are down -0.25 of a point (-0.01%). The S&P 500 index on Tuesday rose to a 3-1/2 week high and closed higher. Bullish factors included (1) strong Chinese economic data that boosted global economic prospects after China Aug industrial production climbed +10.4% y/y, the most in 17 months, and after China Aug retail sales rose +13.4% y/y, the fastest pace in 8 months, and (2) hopes that a U.S. attack on Syria will be averted with Russia’s proposal for Syria to relinquish control of its chemical weapons and with no assurance of Congressional approval of a U.S. attack in any case. Closes: S&P 500 +0.73%, Dow Jones +0.85%, Nasdaq 100 +0.48%.
Dec 10-year T-notes (ZNZ13 +0.13%) this morning are up +5.5 ticks. Dec 10-year T-note prices on Tuesday closed lower on reduced safe-haven demand as the S&P 500 rallied to a 3-1/2 week high on strong Chinese economic data and speculation that a Russian proposal for Syria to put its chemical weapons under international control will avert a U.S. military strike. Closes: TYZ3 -13.50, FVZ3 -9.25.
The dollar index (DXY00 unch) this morning is unch. EUR/USD (^EURUSD) is down -0.0012 (-0.09%) and USD/JPY (^USDJPY) is down -0.09 (-0.09%). The dollar index on Tuesday closed slightly higher. The dollar rose on expectations that the Fed will taper QE3 at next week’s FOMC meeting along with weakness in the yen after USD/JPY climbed to a 1-1/2 month high after the minutes of the BOJ’s Aug 7-8 policy meeting showed policy board members said BOJ bond purchases were putting downward pressure on yields and that consumer-price expectations had turned positive. Closes: Dollar index +0.016 (+0.02%), EUR/USD +0.00127 (+0.10%), USD/JPY +0.801 (+0.80%).
Oct WTI crude oil (CLV13 -0.09%) this morning is down -8 cents (-0.07%) and Oct gasoline (RBV13 +0.16%) is up +0.0059 (+0.22%). Oct crude oil and gasoline prices on Tuesday closed lower with Oct gasoline at a 1-month low. The main bearish factor for crude prices was the report that Syria will agree to a Russian proposal that Syria puts its chemical weapons stockpiles under international control, which reduces concern of a U.S. military strike on Syria that could cause wider conflict in the Middle East and possibly disrupt oil shipments. Closes: CLV3 -2.13 (-1.94%), RBV3 -0.0655 (-2.34%).

Dec 10-year T-notes (ZNZ13 -0.42%) this morning are down -12.5 ticks. Dec 10-year T-note prices on Monday closed higher on speculation the economy is not strong enough to allow the Fed to aggressively taper its bond purchases. Oct crude oil and gasoline prices on Monday settled lower with Oct gasoline falling to a 2-week low. Bearish factors included (1) speculation that President Obama may fail to garner enough Congressional support for a military strike against Syria, and (2) comments from a member of the Libyan parliament energy committee who said that Libya's oil production rebounded to 600,000 barrels a day from 200,000 barrels a day. Closes: CLV3 -1.01 (-0.91%), RBV3 -0.0677 (-2.37%).

Article:

The Chart of the Day is Halozyme Therapeutics (HALO).  I found the stock near the top of the New High List when sorted for frequency.  The stock has both a Trend Spotter buy and 80% technical buy signals.

It is a therapeutically driven, development stage biopharmaceutical company dedicated to developing and commercializing recombinant human enzymes for the infertility, ophthalmology, and oncology communities. The company's broad product development portfolio, including expected near- and long-term product offerings, is based on intellectual property covering the family of human enzymes known as hyaluronidases. The company's initial products are being developed to offer safer and purer alternatives to existing slaughterhouse derived extracts that carry risks of pathogen contamination, immunogenicity, and toxicity. The commercialization of Halozyme's highly versatile enzyme technology within proven markets will enable the company to positively impact the quality of medicine.

Closes: CLV3 +2.16 (+1.99%), RBV3 +0.0177 (+0.62%).
