Today I wanted to find 5 Mid Cap Stocks that might be of interest to Momentum Investors so I used Barchart to sort the S&P 400 Mid Cap Index stocks first for the most frequent number of new highs in the past month, then again for technical buy signals of 80% or more. Today's Watch List includes:

Teleflex - Chart of the Day

Teleflex (TFX) is the Barchart Chart of the Day. The medical instrument company has a Trend Spotter buy signal, a Weighted Alpha of 30.20+ and gained 42.90% in the last year.

The Chart of the Day belongs to Teleflex (TFX). I found the medical instrument stock by using Barchart to sort today's All Time High list first by the most frequent number of new highs this month, then again by technical buy signals of 80% or more. Since the Trend Spotter signaled a buy in 12/16 the stock gained 20.34%

Teleflex Inc. designs, develops, manufactures, and supplies single-use medical devices for common diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in critical care and surgical applications worldwide. Today's 5 Best Mid Caps

There seems to be a disconnect between the direction of the economy and the direction of the stock market. Now I realize that the Conference Boards Leading Economic Indictor include the stock market as one of its components but it is just on of many factors. The Conference Boards December Economic Indicator Report has the Leading Economic Indicators (LEI) declining slightly by .2% and the Coincedent Economic Indicators (CEI) still rising by .1%.

As I write this article the 10,000+ stocks in the Barchart data base tell a different story. Less than 50% are trading above their Daily Moving Averages:

28.27% - 20 DMA
16.42% - 50 DMA
18.93% - 100 DMA

In my personal portfolios, I'm conservative and on the side lines till I see the market trading above its Daily Moving Averages

Today's list contains those few stocks trading above their DMA's. This morning I used Barchart to sort the S&P 400 Mid Cap Stock Index stocks to see which ones had the best technical buy signals and charts. Today I used Barchart to find the stocks in the S&P 400 Mid Cap Index that had the best technical buy signals and charts. First I sorted the Index for the highest technical buy signals then used the Flipchart feature to find the charts I liked. This meant skipping a lot of charts.
