Receptos (RCPT) - Barchart's Chart of the Day

Receptos (RCPT) is the Barchart Chart of the Day.  The company develops therapeutics for immune disorders and was one of the few stocks to hit a new hit today.  The stock has a Trend Spotter buy signal, a Weighted Alpha of 216.53+ and gained 205.80% in the last year.

The Chart of the Day is Receptos (RCPT).  With the soft market where 64% of all stocks are trading below their 20 day moving averages I decided to see what stocks hit an all time new highs today.  There weren't many so I sorted for new high frequency in the last month, eliminated those that didn't have positive returns in the last week and month and used the Flipchart feature to review the charts.  Since the Trend Spotter signaled a buy on12/5 the stock gained 56.58%.

Receptos, Inc. is a biopharmaceutical company. It develops therapeutic for the treatment of immune and metabolic diseases.

According to people with knowledge of the matter, China's Banking Regulatory Commission (CBRC) ordered its regional offices to increase scrutiny of credit risks in the coal-mining industry and to closely monitor risks from trust and wealth-management products. China's coal industry has come under scrutiny as investors seek repayment of a 3 billion yuan ($496 million) trust product that's facing default because the miner that borrowed the funds collapsed.
ECB Governing Council member and Bank of Italy Governor Visco said "the Eurozone has a substantial current account surplus and is going to keep it" and that "capital is moving toward Europe and this gives strength to the euro."

Minco Gold Corp - Barchart's Chart of the Day

Minco Gold Corp (MGH) is the Barchart Chart of the Day.  This is a Canadian miner who is developing gold properties in China.  Although the stock presently has a Trend Spotter buy, in the last year the stock lost 36.90% but in the last month gained 70.59%.

The Chart of the Day is Minco Gold Corp (MGH).  This is a small cap stock that should only be considered by aggressive investors who have many other investments and can take a small position in a highly speculative stock.  This is to show you the power of the Barchart screeners to find unknown possibilities.

I found the stock while doing my standard sort.  Use Barchart to sort today's New High List for the stocks with the most advances in the last month, eliminate the stocks that do not have positive results in the last week and month, then use the Flipchart feature to review the charts.   Since the Trend Spotter signaled a buy on 1/6 the stock has gained 31.82%.

From a press release - MINCO GOLD CORPORATION is a pioneer among western mining companies in China. The Company has engaged a dynamic, proven management team in China and Canada to evaluate over 400 projects in China, leverage its strong relationships with key Chinese mining organizations and acquire one of the leading asset portfolio of any western mining company in China.

  • There are no analysts following this stock so there are no revenue or earnings estimates
  • This is not a US company
  • This is a true penny stock

I hope I have given you enough red flags to realize this is not an "investment"; this is a highly speculative situation only for well heeled investors that need a little excitement in their life..  The only information you have is the price.  It is a technical penny stock and should be played as such.  Watch this on a daily basis and be prepared to bail on weakness.

I am not investing in this stock.

Today's Best Small Caps

Today I used Barchart to sort the S&P 600 Small Cap Index to find the stocks with the best technical indicators and charts.  I first sort for frequency of new highs in the last month, eliminate the stock that did't have positive results for the last week and month and used the Flipchart feature to leave out the stocks with charts I didn't like.

MARKET COMMENTS
Mar E-mini S&Ps (ESH14 -0.33%) this morning are down -8.00 points (-0.44%). The S&P 500 on Wednesday closed little changed on mixed Q4 company earnings results. Stronger-than-expected earnings results from Norfolk Southern were offset by weakness in IBM, which reported a decline in revenue for the seventh consecutive quarter. Stocks failed to garner support from a rally in China’s Shanghai Stock Index to a 1-1/2 week high after China’s money-market rates fell for a second day on the PBOC’s liquidity injections. The dollar index on Wednesday settled little changed. A rally in the British pound to a 3-week high against the dollar was a negative factor after the UK Nov ILO unemployment rate fell by a larger-than-expected -0.3 to a 4-3/4 year low of 7.1%. The dollar index continues to see underlying support from expectations that the FOMC at its meeting next week will trim QE3 by another $10 billion. Closes: Dollar index +0.069 (+0.09%), EUR/USD -0.00137 (-0.10%), USD/JPY +0.216 (+0.21%).
Mar WTI crude oil (CLH14 +0.24%) this morning is up +7 cents (+0.07%) and Mar gasoline (RBH14 -0.12%) is down -0.0067 (-0.25%). Mar crude oil and gasoline prices on Wednesday closed sharply higher with Mar crude at a 2-1/2 week high and Mar gasoline at a 1-week high on speculation that the severe cold snap to grip the northern U.S. will further reduce distillate supplies as heating oil demand climbs. Thursday’s weekly EIA data is also expected to show distillate supplies, which include heating oil and diesel, fell -500,000 bbl last week. Closes: CLH4 +1.76 (+1.85%), RBH4 +0.0548 (+2.08%).
