OVERNIGHT MARKETS AND NEWS
September E-mini S&Ps (ESU15 -1.01%) are down sharply by -1.12% at a 1-1/2 month low and European stocks are down-3.75% at a 1-week low on concern Greece will be forced to leave the Eurozone. The 10-year German bund yield sank to a 3-1/2 week low of 0.705% on increased safe-haven demand for government bonds from the Greek turmoil. Greece closed banks until at least July 6 and imposed capital controls in an attempt to avert a run on its banks. Trading on the Athens Stock Exchange will be closed as well until Jul 6. The move follows a breakdown of talks Friday between Greece and its creditors and Greek Prime Minister Tsipras's surprise announcement that he will put creditors’ demands up for a referendum to the Greek people to vote on July 5. The ECB on Sunday froze the level of emergency funds available to Greek banks at Friday's level of 89 billion euros. Sep T-note prices (ZNU15 +0.75%) are up +1-05/32 points at a 3-1/2 week high.
The PBOC cut interest rates for the fourth time since Nov on Saturday when they lowered the 1-year lending rate by -25 bp to 4.85% and the 1-year deposit rate by 25 bp to 2.00%, and said reserve ratios for some lenders including city commercial and rural commercial banks will be cut by 50 bp.

September E-mini S&Ps (ESU15 -1.01%) this morning are down -23.50 points (-1.12%) at a 1-1/2 month low. Friday's closes: S&P 500 -0.04%, Dow Jones +0.31%, Nasdaq -0.66%. The S&P 500 on Friday rebounded from a 1-week low and closed little changed. The main supportive factor was the +1.5 point increase in the final-June U.S. consumer sentiment index, better than expectations of unchanged at 94.6 and the highest level in 5 months. The main negative factor was the decline in tech stocks sparked by an -18% plunge in shares of Micron after it reported weaker-than-expected sales and earnings.

Sep 10-year T-note futures prices on Friday fell to a 9-month nearest-futures low and closed lower. The dollar index (DXY00 +0.16%) this morning is up +0.100 (+0.10%) at a 3-week high. EUR/USD (^EURUSD) is down -0.0051 (-0.4%) at a 3-week low. The dollar index on Friday rallied to a 2-week high and closed higher on (1) the larger-than-expected increase in the Jun U.S. consumer sentiment index to a 5-month high, and (2) weakness in EUR/USD which fell to a 2-week low as the unresolved Greek debt crisis increased the risk of a Greek default.
Aug WTI crude oil (CLQ15 -2.23%) this morning is down -$1.42 a brrrel (-2.38%) at a 3-week low. Aug gasoline (RBQ15 -1.31%) is down -0.0336 (-1.66%). Friday's closes: CLQ5 -0.07 (-0.12%), RBQ5 +0.0077 (+0.38%). Aug crude oil and gasoline settled mixed Friday with Aug crude at a 2-week low. European stocks and government bonds received an additional boost after ECB President Draghi reiterated his commitment to raising inflation as fast as possible, which suggests the ECB may implement full-blown quantitative easing. Asian stocks closed mostly higher: Japan +0.33%, Hong Kong +0.37%, China +1.83%, Taiwan +0.14%, Australia -0.22%, Singapore +0.90%, South Korea +0.38%, India +0.95%. The Asian markets have yet to react to the news that China lowered interest rates as the PBOC cut rates after the Asian markets were closed. However, during today's trading session the Shanghai Stock Index rallied after the PBOC added money to the banking system to stem a cash squeeze. A cash shortage stemming from new share sales spiked China's 7-day repurchase rate, a gauge of cash availability in the banking system, by as much as 322 bp to a 9-1/2 month high of 6.50%. According to two people with direct knowledge of the matter, the PBOC offered 50 billion yuan ($8.2 billion) into the banking system using Short-term Liquidity Operations in an attempt to bring down money-market rates. Commodity prices are mixed. Dec crude oil (CLF15 +2.43%) is up +1.86% at a 1-week high. Dec gasoline (RBF15 +2.47%) is up +2.15% at a 1-week high. Dec gold (GCZ14 +0.47%) is up +0.22%. ECB President Draghi said that shorter-term inflation expectations "have been declining to levels that I would deem excessively low" and that "we will do what we must to raise inflation and inflation expectations as fast as possible, as our price-stability mandate requires."
UK Oct public sector net borrowing rose +7.1 billion pounds, slightly more than expectations of +7.0 billion pounds. Sep was revised lower to an increase of +10.6 billion pounds from the originally reported +11.1 billion pounds.

Declines remain limited as the dollar weakened and after the U.S. State Department said a number of U.S. embassies will close on Aug 4 as a “precautionary” step because of security concerns, which limited further selling of crude on concerns of a terrorist attack in the Middle East or North Africa over the weekend. Closes: CLU3 -0.95 (-0.88%), RBU3 -0.0337 (-1.11%).

MARKET COMMENTS
June E-mini S&Ps (ESM13 +0.24%) this morning are up +4.50 points (+0.29%). The S&P 500 index on Wednesday closed lower on signs the global economy is slowing. The China Apr ISM manufacturing index fell -0.3 to 50.6 vs. expectations of -0.2 to 50.7 and the Apr ADP employment change showed less hiring than expected (+119,000 versus expectations of +150,000). Supportive factors included the Fed's post-FOMC statement that it will maintain its QE3 program and the Apr ISM manufacturing index that slowed less than expected (-0.6 to 50.7 vs. expectations of -0.8 to 50.5). Closes: S&P 500 -0.93%, Dow Jones -0.94%, Nasdaq 100 -0.49%.
June 10-year T-notes (ZNM13 -0.01%) this morning are down -0.5 of a tick. June 10-year T-note futures prices on Wednesday posted a new contract high and the 10-year T-note yield fell to a 4-1/2 month low of 1.612% on concerns the global economy is slowing. China's manufacturing activity slowed more than expected in Apr and the Apr ADP employment change showed companies hired fewer workers than expected. Another positive factor for Treasuries was the post-FOMC statement that said the Fed will maintain its bond buying at a pace of $85 billion a month and will continue "until the outlook for the labor market has improved substantially." Closes: TYM3 +8.0, FVM3 +3.5.
The dollar index (DXY00 +0.31%) this morning is up +0.187 (+0.23%). EUR/USD (^EURUSD) is down -0.0017 (-0.13%) and USD/JPY (^USDJPY) is down -0.01 (-0.01%). The dollar index on Wednesday posted a 2-month low and closed lower after the smaller-than-expected increase in the Apr ADP employment change fueled speculation the Fed will maintain its dollar-negative QE3 program. The dollar recovered from its worst levels after the Apr ISM manufacturing index weakened less than expected. EUR/USD climbed to a 2-month high on short covering ahead of Thursday's ECB meeting in which the market expects a 25 bp rate cut. Closes: Dollar index -0.262 (-0.32%), EUR/USD +0.00119 (+0.09%), USD/JPY -0.049 (-0.05%).
June WTI crude oil (CLM13 +0.54%) this morning is up +0.53 (+0.58%) and June gasoline (RBM13 +0.26%) is up +0.0094 (+0.35%). June crude oil and gasoline on Wednesday closed sharply lower with June gasoline falling to a 4-1/2 month low. Concerns over global growth hammered energy prices after the China Apr manufacturing PMI fell more than expected and the Apr ADP employment change showed a smaller-than-expected increase in employment. In addition, weekly EIA data showed U.S. crude inventories for the week ended April 26 soared +6.696 mln bbl to 395.3 mln bbl, more than expectations of a +1.1 million bbl build, to the highest level since records began in 1982. Closes: CLM3 -2.43 (-2.60%), RBM3 -0.0827 (-2.95%).
