Today's 5 Best Large Caps

This morning I wanted to find the large cap stocks that have had good price appreciation not only over the past year but also still seem to have some steam left.  I used Barchart to sort the S&P 500 Large Cap Index stocks first for the highest Weighted Alpha then for current technical buy signals of 80% or better.  The stock that made the cut were Cablevision Systems (CVC), Under Armour (UA), Teco Energy (TE), Reynolds American (RAI and Autozone (AZO).

Under Armour - Chart of the Day

Under Armour (UA) is the Barchart Chart of the Day.  The sports clothing company has a Trend Spotter buy signal, a Weighted Alpha of 58.90+ and gained 52.56% in the last year.

The Chart of the Day belongs to Under Armour (UA).  I found the sports clothing stock by using Barchart to sort the Russell 3000 Index stocks first for stocks with technical buy signals of 80% or better then for a Weighted Alpha of at least 50.00+.  Next I used the Flipchart feature to review the charts.  The Trend Spotter signaled another buy on 9/15.

Only 3 Mid Cap stocks

Ok before you all start complaining that I always give you at least 5 stock picks let me just say that Mid Caps are having a hard time so today there will only be 3.  They are Skyworks Solutions (SWKS), Under Armour (UA) and Cooper Companies (COO).

Before we get into those 3 stocks let's look at the S&P 400 Mid Cap Index as if it were a stock so you can see why I'm not keen on the Mid Caps this week.  First the chart, then the technical indicators:

Today I used Barchart to sort the S&P 400 Mid Cap Index to find stocks I still like even in this choppy market.  First I sorted the Index for the stocks hitting the most new highs in the last month then panned down the rows to find the stocks that had net gains not only during the last month but also during the last 5 trading sessions.

The list includes Dreamworks Animation (DWA), Royal Gold (RGLD), Trinity Industries (TRN), Under Armour (UA) and Omnicare (OCR):

The "Chart of the Day" is Under Armour (UA), which showed up on Friday's Barchart "All-Time High" list. Under Armour on Friday posted a new all-time high of $103.32 and closed up 3.50%. TrendSpotter has been long since May 30 at $100.70. In recent news on the stock, Cowen on June 4 reiterated its Outperform rating on Under Armour and said that the company's running footwear will gain market share and that margins will improve on reduced input costs. Buckingham on May 29 reiterated its Buy rating on Under Armour with a target of $115. Under Armour, with a market cap of $5.2 billion, sells branded performance products for men, women and youth.
