OVERNIGHT MARKETS AND NEWS
Dec E-mini S&Ps (ESZ17 +0.05%) this morning are up +0.10% and European stocks are up +0.03% after a gauge of German investor confidence rose for the first time in 4 months. Also, energy stocks are higher with Nov WTI crude oil (CLX17 +0.58%) up +0.93% after Iraqi Oil Minister Jabbar al-Luaibi said OPEC should cut its oil output by an additional 1% to help rebalance the global oil market. China's Shanghai Composite fell to a 2-week low as exporter stocks fell on trade concerns after U.S. Trade Representative Lighthizer said China's economic model represents an "unprecedented" threat to the world trading system that can't be addressed under current global rules. MARKET COMMENTS
Dec S&P 500 E-mini stock futures (ESZ17 +0.05%) this morning are up +2.50 points (+0.10%). Friday's closes: S&P 500 +0.15%, Dow Jones +0.28%, Nasdaq -0.11%. The S&P 500 on Monday climbed to a new record high and closed higher on carry-over support from a rally in European stocks to a 2-month high after the Bundesbank in its monthly report said, “the German economy may continue its path of strong expansion in Q3 of 2017." There was also strength in defense contractor stocks on signs of increased M&A activity after Northrop Grumman agreed to buy Orbital ATK for $7.8 billion. Stocks fell back from their best levels after the U.S. Sep NAHB housing market index fell -3 to 64, weaker than expectations of -1 to 67.
Dec 10-year T-note prices (ZNZ17 +0.07%) this morning are up +2 ticks. Friday's closes: TYZ7 -7.50, FVZ7 -3.25. Dec 10-year T-notes on Monday fell to a 1-month low and closed lower on negative carry-over from an increase in the German 10-year bund yield to a 1-month high and increased inflation expectations after the 10-year T-note breakeven inflation rate rose to a 4-month high.
The dollar index (DXY00 -0.20%) this morning is down -0.181 (-0.20%). EUR/USD (^EURUSD) is up +0.0038 (+0.32% at a 1-week high and USD/JPY (^USDJPY) fell back from a new 1-1/2 month high in overnight trade and is down -0.04 (-0.04%). Friday's closes: Dollar Index +0.164 (+0.18), EUR/USD +0.0009 (+0.08%), USD/JPY +0.74 (+0.67%). The dollar index on Monday closed higher on the rally in the S&P 500 to a new all-time high, which reduced safe-haven demand for the yen and sent USD/JPY up to a 1-1/2 month high. The dollar also found support on the rise in 10-year T-note yields to a 1-month high, which improves the dollar's interest rate differentials.
Nov crude oil (CLX17 +0.58%) this morning is up +47 cents (+0.93%) and Nov gasoline (RBX17 +0.28%) is up +0.0064 (+0.40%). Friday's closes: Nov WTI crude -0.09 (-0.18%), Nov gasoline -0.0048 (-0.30%). Nov crude oil and gasoline on Monday closed lower on a stronger dollar and on demand concerns as the refining maintenance season begins, which will reduce refinery demand for crude oil as refiners shut down for maintenance.
Metals prices this morning are higher with Dec gold (GCZ17 +0.02%) up +0.6 (+0.05%), Dec silver (SIZ17 +0.17%) +0.044 (+0.26%) and Dec copper (HGZ17 +0.32%) +0.009 (+0.29%). MORNING CALL 6/1

MORNING CALL
OVERNIGHT MARKETS AND NEWS
Jun E-mini S&Ps (ESM16 -0.38%) are down -0.31% and European stocks are down -0.89% on signs of lackluster global manufacturing activity. The German May Markit/BME manufacturing PMI was revised lower, Japan's May Nikkei PMI contracted at the steepest pace in over 3 years, and China's May manufacturing PMI remained basically flat. A -1.22% slide in July WTI crude oil (CLN16 -1.20%) to a 1-week low undercut energy producers, and U.S. stocks were under pressure after the OECD revised its U.S. 2016 GDP forecast downward. Asian stocks settled mostly lower: Japan -1.62%, Hong Kong -0.26%, China -0.11%, Taiwan +0.72%, Australia -1.03%, Singapore -0.02%, South Korea -0.02%, India +0.17%.
The dollar index (DXY00 -0.38%) is down -0.34% after the OECD cut its U.S. 2016 GDP forecast and EUR/USD (^EURUSD) is up +0.26% after the OECD raised its Eurozone 2016 GDP forecast to 1.6% from a Feb estimate of 1.4%. USD/JPY (^USDJPY) is down -1.11%.
Sep T-note prices (ZNU16 +0.06%) are up +1 tick.
The OECD cut its U.S. 2016 GDP estimate to 1.8% from a Feb projection of 2.0% and raised its Eurozone 2016 GDP forecast to 1.6% from a Feb estimate of 1.4%. The OECD kept its global 2016 GDP estimate unchanged at 3.0%, but warned that the global economy is slipping into a self-fulfilling "low-growth trap" where ultra-loose monetary policy risks doing more harm than good.
The China May manufacturing PMI was unchanged at 50.1, stronger than expectations of -0.1 to 50.0.
The German May Markit/BME manufacturing PMI was revised downward to 52.1 from the originally reported 52.4.
The Japan May Nikkei manufacturing PMI was revised upward to 47.7 from the originally reported 47.6, still the steepest pace of contraction since the data series began in 2013.

MARKET COMMENTS
June E-mini S&Ps (ESM16 -0.38%) this morning are down -6.50 points (-0.31%). Tuesday's closes: S&P 500 -0.10%, Dow Jones -0.48%, Nasdaq +0.25%. The S&P 500 on Tuesday fell back from a 1-1/4 month high and closed lower on the unexpected -2.1 point decline in U.S. May consumer confidence (Conference Board) to 92.6 (weaker than expectations of +1.9 to 96.1 and a 6-month low) and the unexpected -1.1 point decline in the May Chicago PMI (weaker than expectations of +0.1 to 50.5). Stocks were boosted by the +1.0% m/m increase in U.S. Apr personal spending, stronger than expectations of +0.7% m/m and the largest increase in 6-1/2 years.
September 10-year T-note prices (ZNU16 +0.06%) this morning are up +1 tick. Tuesday's closes: TYU6 -0.50, FVU6 -0.25. Sep T-notes on Tuesday fell to a 1-month low but recovered and closed little changed. T-notes were undercut by negative carry-over from Friday's comments by Fed Chair Yellen who said a Fed rate hike in coming months may be "appropriate." T-notes were also undercut by the sharp +1.0% increase in U.S. Apr personal spending. T-notes found support on the decline in the U.S. May consumer confidence index to a 6-month low and by the weak May Chicago PMI.
The dollar index (DXY00 -0.38%) this morning is down -0.327 (-0.34%). EUR/USD (^EURUSD) is up +0.0029 (+0.26%). USD/JPY (^USDJPY) is down-1.23 (-1.11%). Tuesday's closes: Dollar Index +0.370 (+0.97%), EUR/USD -0.0006 (-0.05%), USD/JPY -0.39 (-0.35%). The dollar index on Tuesday closed higher on carryover support from Friday's hawkish comments Friday by Fed Chair Yellen who said a Fed rate hike in coming months may be "appropriate." The dollar was also boosted by the stronger-than-expected U.S. Apr personal spending of +1.0%, which rose at the fastest pace in 6-1/2 years and bolstered the case for a Fed rate hike.
July WTI crude oil (CLN16 -1.20%) this morning is down -60 cents (-1.22%) at a 1-week low. July gasoline (RBN16 -0.60%) is down -0.0117 (-0.73%) at a 2-week low. Tuesday's closes: CLN6 -0.23 (-0.47%), RBN6 -0.0244 (-1.49%). July crude oil and gasoline on Tuesday closed lower on the stronger dollar and on expectations that OPEC members will be unable to agree on production cuts when the cartel meets on Thursday in Vienna.

OVERNIGHT MARKETS AND NEWS
December E-mini S&Ps (ESZ15 +0.65%) are up +0.44% and European stocks are up +0.61%, both at 2-1/2 week highs, as a +1.65% rally in Nov crude oil (CLX15 +1.94%) to a 5-week high and a +0.51% increase in Dec copper (HGZ15 +1.10%) to a 2-week high boosted energy and commodity producers. Also, Morgan Stanley upgraded their recommendation on miners to 'Attractive,' which boosted Anglo American Plc, Rio Tinto Group and BHP Billiton Ltd. to up more than 4%. In addition, increased M&A activity boosted stocks as SABMiller gained over 1% after Anheuser-Busch InBev NV raised its offer for SABMiller to $104 billion. Asian stocks settled higher: Japan +0.75%, Hong Kong +3.13%, China closed for holiday, Taiwan +1.20%, Australia +0.59%, Singapore +2.22%, South Korea +1.39%, India +0.38%. Japan's Nikkei Stock Index climbed to a 2-1/2 week high as the rally in crude oil bolstered energy producers. USD/JPY is weaker after the BOJ refrained from additional stimulus measures following today's 2-day policy meeting and after BOJ Governor Kuroda said that inflation will climb toward the BOJ's 2.0% target once the effect of lower oil prices dissipates. The BOJ will update its outlook for inflation and economic growth on Oct 30.
The dollar index (DXY00 +0.02%) is up +0.03%. EUR/USD (^EURUSD) is down -0.11%% on speculation the ECB may expand QE after German Aug industrial production unexpectedly fell. USD/JPY (^USDJPY) is down -0.12%.

MARKET COMMENTS
Dec E-mini S&Ps (ESZ15 +0.65%) this morning are up +8.75 points (+0.44%). Tuesday's closes: S&P 500 -0.36%, Dow Jones +0.08%, Nasdaq -0.57%. The S&P 500 on Tuesday closed lower on the IMF's cut its global growth forecast for 2015 to 3.1% from July's estimate of 3.3% and for 2016 to 3.6% from July's 3.8%. In addition, there was weakness in health-care companies after Celgene and Vertex Pharmaceuticals both lost more than 5%. On the positive side, energy producers rose as crude oil prices climbed to a 1-month high.
Dec 10-year T-notes (ZNZ15 -0.19%) this morning are down -8 ticks. Tuesday's closes: TYZ5 +6.50, FVZ5 +2.75. Dec T-note prices on Tuesday settled higher on weakness in stocks, which boosted the safe-haven demand for T-notes, and on global growth concerns that may further delay a Fed interest rate increase after the IMF cut its 2015/16 global GDP estimates.
The dollar index (DXY00 +0.02%) this morning is up +0.030 (+0.03%). EUR/USD (^EURUSD) is down -0.0012 (-0.11%). USD/JPY (^USDJPY) is down-0.14 (-0.12%). Tuesday's closes: Dollar Index -0.651 (-0.68%), EUR/USD +0.0084 (+0.75%), USD/JPY -0.23 (-0.19%). The dollar index on Tuesday closed lower on continued negative carryover from last Friday's weaker-than-expected U.S. Sep payroll report that pushed back expectations for a Fed interest rate increase from this year to Q1-2016. EUR/USD received a boost on reduced expectations of additional ECB stimulus after ECB Governing Council member Liikanen said speculation of additional ECB easing is "premature."
Nov crude oil (CLX15 +1.94%) this morning is up +80 cents (+1.65%) at a 2-week high and Nov gasoline (RBX15 +0.34%) is up +0.0011 (+0.08%). Tuesday's closes: CLX5 +2.27 (+4.91%), RBX5 +0.0411 (+2.97%). Nov crude oil and gasoline on Tuesday climbed to 1-month highs and settled sharply higher on a weaker dollar and on reduced U.S. crude production after the U.S. Energy Department in its Short-Term Energy Outlook said U.S. Sep crude output was down -120,000 bpd. Crude oil prices continue to see strength from Middle East tensions after at least one Russian fighter jet on Monday violated Turkish/NATO air space.
