MORNING CALL
OVERNIGHT MARKETS AND NEWS
Sep E-mini S&Ps (ESU16 unch) are little changed, up +0.03%, and European stocks are down -0.85% on increased chances of a Fed rate hike this year after hawkish Fed comments last Friday at the Fed's annual symposium in Jackson Hole, WY. The outlook for a near-term Fed rate hike has boosted the dollar and undercut commodity prices. Crude oil (CLV16 -1.34%) is down -1.34%, which has drug down energy producing stocks, while gold prices (GCZ16-0.21%) are down -0.37% at a 2-month low, which has pushed mining stocks lower. Asian stocks settled mixed: Japan +2.30%, Hong Kong -0.38%, China-0.01%, Taiwan -0.24%, Australia -0.84%, Singapore -0.99%, South Korea +0.10%, India +0.43%. Japanese stocks rose as the Nikkei stock index climbed to a 1-1/2 week high after USD/JPY jumped to a 2-1/2 week high when BOJ Governor Kuroda said the BOJ "will act decisively as we move on." The rally in USD/JPY boosted the outlook for exporters, with Toyota Motor and Mazda Motor up over 4%.
The dollar index (DXY00 +0.17%) is up +0.08% at a 2-week high. EUR/USD (^EURUSD) is down -0.15% at a 2-week low. USD/JPY (^USDJPY) is up +0.33% at a 2-1/2 week high.
Sep T-note prices (ZNU16 +0.11%) are up +3.5 ticks as they recover from a 2-month low posted in overnight trade.
ECB Executive Board member Coeure said "we may see short-term rates being pushed to the effective lower bound more frequently in the event of macroeconomic shocks" if governments don't act to boost the growth potential of Eurozone economies.
BOJ Governor Kuroda said "the BOJ will act decisively as we move on" and the "zero bound is no longer insurmountable" as a policy constraint "in practice." He said the current rate is "still far from such a lower bound" and that will carefully consider how to make the best use of the policy scheme in order to achieve the price stability target.

MARKET COMMENTS
Sep E-mini S&Ps (ESU15 +0.22%) this morning are up +7.00 points (+0.36%). Wednesday's closes: S&P 500 +1.83%, Dow Jones +1.82%, Nasdaq +2.74%. The S&P 500 on Wednesday closed higher on (1) strength in technology stocks after Apple, Microsoft and Intel rose over 2%, (2) reduced expectations for a Fed rate hike after the Aug ADP employment change of +190,000 was weaker than expectations of +200,000 and July factory orders rose +0.4%, weaker than expectations of +0.9%.
Dec 10-year T-notes (ZNZ15 +0.12%) this morning are up +3 ticks. Wednesday's closes: TYZ5 -5.00, FVZ5 -3.00. Dec T-notes on Wednesday closed lower on reduced safe-haven demand with the rally in stocks, and on the relatively strong Beige Book report that raised the possibility that the Fed will go ahead with its rate hike move this year. T-notes received some support from news of tame wage pressures after U.S. Q2 unit labor costs were revised lower to -1.4%.
The dollar index (DXY00 +0.03%) this morning is up +0.084 (+0.09%). EUR/USD (^EURUSD) is down -0.0005 (-0.04%). USD/JPY (^USDJPY) is down-0.05 (-0.04%). Wednesday's closes: Dollar Index +0.378 (+0.40%), EUR/USD -0.0088 (-0.78%), USD/JPY +0.96 (+0.80%). The dollar index on Wednesday closed higher on (1) weakness in EUR/USD after Eurozone PPI fell -0.1% m/m and -2.1% y/y, which shows benign inflation pressures that may prod the ECB into expanding stimulus, and (2) the upbeat Fed Beige Book which may sway the Fed to raise interest rates this year.
Oct crude oil (CLV15 -0.13%) this morning is down -19 cents (-0.41%) and Oct gasoline (RBV15 +0.58%) is up +0.0108 (+0.76%). Wednesday's closes: CLV5 +0.84 (+1.85%), RBV5 +0.0344 (+2.46%). Oct crude and gasoline prices on Wednesday recovered from early losses and closed higher on the -1.3%drop in U.S. crude production in the week ended Aug 28 to a 6-3/4 month low and on the rally in U.S. stocks. Crude oil prices were undercut by the +4.67 million bbl surge in weekly EIA crude inventories and news that President Obama has now gained veto-proof support in the Senate for the Iranian nuclear agreement, which virtually ensures that sanctions will be dropped on Iran late this year or early next year.

MARKET COMMENTS
Mar E-mini S&Ps (ESH15 +0.47%) this morning are up +8.50 points (+0.41%). The S&P 500 index on Wednesday closed unchanged: S&P 500 unch, Dow Jones -0.04%, Nasdaq +0.38%. Stocks traded lower most of the day after an emergency meeting of Eurozone finance ministers failed to find a solution to Greece's debt problems as Germany remains steadfast in its insistence that Greece comply with the original terms of its bailout agreement. Prices rebounded in late trading, however, and closed little changed after several unnamed Eurozone officials said that the Eurozone finance ministers were closing in on an extension of Greece's rescue agreement with its creditors.

Bullish factors included (1) the ongoing Greek debt financing situation along with concern that a failure in the Ukraine/Russian peace talks may lead to an expanding conflict in Ukraine, and (2) the rally in USD/JPY to a 5-week high as a rally in stocks curbed the safe-haven demand for the yen.
Mar WTI crude oil (CLH15 +3.15%) this morning is up +$1.28 a barrel (+2.62%) and Mar gasoline (RBH15 +1.07%) is up +0.0109 (+0.71%). Mar crude oil and Mar gasoline on Wednesday closed lower: CLH5 -1.18 (-2.36%), RBH5 -0.0091 (-0.59%).
